Windows 7 Splash Screen Changes to Vista

Hi everyone,

I just installed Parallels Desktop 5 on my mac. I am using it to boot my bootcamp partition (Windows 7 64 bit) as a virtual machine.

All seems to work well except one problem. The Windows startup splash screen that you see while the os is loading changed to the old style vista splash screen. This occurs when booting through parallels as well as running windows 7 natively through boot camp.

Any ideas?
 
Here is the solution:
- Boot into Boot Camp (NOT in Parallels)
- Run the command line as Administrator
- Type the following command : bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US

The original boot screen will be restored (unless Parallels changes it again). Parallels changes a number of things in the Boot Camp partition, and makes changes to the registry. For this reason I have uninstalled Parallels with some difficulty. VmWare does not make these modifications!
 
I entered the instructions into the command prompt and it fixed the issue. I restarted into os x and booted windows through parallels. The first time, everything was normal. I restarted the virtual machine and the vista splash screen returned.

Anyways, thanks for the fix. I will have to try vmware fusion next update.

The answer might lie in the VM configuration of the Windows 7 machine. There is an option for Windows VMs called "Tune Windows for Speed" found under "Settings | Options | Optimization". I recommend leaving this enabled for a few boots, then turning it off, which will re-enable to boot screen service, but for the most part, leave all other tunes in place.

There's no need for the command above to make this work. Shut down the VM, uncheck the option, reboot, shut down again, and on the second boot (since changing the option) it will be back to its Windows flag glory.

Doesn't seem to have too much impact on performance, IMHO, so I'll keep it on to avoid wartime flashbacks of using Windows Vista.
