Windows 8.1 USB drives lock when copying files

I have an IMac and an Macbook Pro having the same problems. Both have the latest updates to the OS and Parallels. After connecting USB drives to Windows 8.1 the drives lock up when copying files. More so, when I try to rename a directory or file I cannot do so because the change window constantly resets itself as if the drive is being continually "monitored". Thus, I cannot back up one drive to another nor change names.
