Windows 98update

I've just installed an old version of Windows 98 on Parallels. I assume that it needs lots of updates. As of 11 July Microsoft does not provide automatic update for windows 98SE. Where can one find updates to download and install?

Windows 98 and Windows 98SE do not have automatic update to begin with, as far as I know. You need to run Windows Update from Internet Explorer to access the Microsoft Windows Update site for updates to Windows 98 (but from July 11 Microsoft no longer supplies new security updates to Windows 98 and Windows Me).

Thanks, yes I've been able to do an automatic update by first updating Inernet Explorer. But still no audio output.

New installation of Windows 98 / can't upgrade

I just installed Windows 98 and unfortunately, the version of IE is so outdated that I can't get to a single page to even download an update.

Any suggestions or direct links to files?

So, through some McGuyver work, I've managed to update IE. Now it's just a matter of getting Win 98 to update without crashing!

You need to install Internet Explorer 6 before Windows Update will work properly. You can download the IE 6 installer from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&DisplayLang=en
or go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx and click on Download Center.

After you have successfully installed Internet Explorer 6, you can use Windows Update to install all the patches to Windows 98, and other things like Windows Media Player 9, DirectX 9.0c, and .NET framework, if you wish.

You need to run Windows Update several times because after some components/patches are installed, additional patches become applicable/available/installable. Keep running Windows Update until it finds no more updates/patches to install.
