Windows applications load but don't function

Hi,
I installed Parallels 11 a couple of weeks ago and everything seemed to work fine. My Microsoft Office is loaded on the Windows Virtual Machine.
Today, when I try to open Microsoft Excel, the application shows in the Title Bar but I can't get any functionality. For example: New Worksheet does nothing. Open does not even show the Finder dialog. If I double-click on a .xls file the computer tries to open the file with Numbers, even though I've set to open .xls files with Excel.
Please help my frustration!

Dear John, please open Microsoft Excel application in Windows virtual machine and go to File -> Options -> Advanced -> Display Section -> Disable hardware graphics acceleration and restart virtual machine and let us know how it works. Thanks!
