Windows files opening as read-only in Word for Mac

So this may be a fairly uncommon situation, but I use Word 2011 for Mac to edit files created in the Windows 10 environment. Since upgrading to Parallels version 13, Word will only open Windows files as read-only. These same files can be opened normally by other Mac programs, and they also work fine in Word if I copy them over to the Mac first. I'd rather find a solution than a workaround though, has anyone experienced this particular issue before?
 
Hello ScottC8, To repair Microsoft word, please follow as suggested below:
  1. To begin, click on Windows Start and then Control Panel.
  2. After the Control Panel window opens, click on Uninstall a Program.
  3. A list of all installed programs should now appear Highlight Microsoft Office 2010 and click on Change.
  4. After the dialog box loads, choose the Repair option and click Continue.
  5. This process may take a few minutes, but after completion, you will be prompted to exit and restart any open Office programs. You may then click Close. You may be prompted to reboot your computer to apply all changes and complete setup. Please check if this helps. Thanks, Meena.
