Windows thinks it is upgrade

I have 4 copies of Windows XP. One is a Gateway, two are upgrades, and one has nothing on the disk nor on the case indicating it's an upgrade version.

It took me a while to get Parallels to try to boot it - I had to change the boot order to boot from CD first. But finally it boots the XP installation disk. I tell it's a full install, and I accept the read me - and it loads some stuff and finally tells me it can't find an existing Windows.

I'm sure we paid for a full version (education version of XP Pro). Is there any way to check this?


Also - if I install OS/2 first, will that work? Or should I try installing the Gateway version and then this version?

yes I got caught by this Microsoft issue


i had to buy an OEM WinXP sp2 home on DVD to get on with the installation

I thought I had an OEM full Windows. It doesn't indicate anywhere that it isn't.

Buying a new version is a couple hundred dollars I really can't afford while I'm paying for my iMac.

I wonder what the cheapest version Windows is that I can install first and then upgrade with this supposedly full version of Windows.
