Windows XP losing all other drives

I am using MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 and the Parallels Pro Edition. After an update, the Windows XP virtual machine could no longer see the other drives. I had to restore the file of the Virtual Machine altogether to be able to work with files that were not in the virtual Windows C drive. However, everytime I start the XP it attempts to do the updates that lead to that disaster. I have to stop the process immediately or else everything will be a mess again. How can I stop this process and keep my XP virtual machine from attempting to do those updates?
