Windows XP shows a smaller hard disc than Parallels

Parallels says the Windows XP has a smaller hard disc (about 33GB) and is running out of space. Parallels 11 says it's 80GB.
Lucky I made a copy of the virtual machine as when i tried resizing it corrupted it and unable to be restarted.
Is there a way to correct this issue and is the problem with Windows or Parallels?
