I believe that is related to this thread: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=260306 unfortunately I never get any answer back from Parallels, even after send them the bug report. I was able to fix the issue but I don't remember the specific, and seems then I do have some other issue popping in and out currently the shadow under the main menu part is turning opaque after I reinstalled the parallels tools. Moving from parallels 7 to 8 didn't solve the issue. It's a pity as I found parallels Desktop for mac to be a create solution, they just need to give some love to linux in general and ubuntu in particular.
To bring left hand (screen side) menu with Apps etc in ubuntu 12.04.1 what must do in ubuntu ...Parallels 8 for the Mac...?
unity --reset try unity reset in terminal unity --reset @see http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?p=640653#post640653 @see http://www.tuxgarage.com/2011/04/missing-top-and-side-panels-in-unity.html (scroll to the Reset Unity / Compiz section)
how change user in Terminal... vaio-pc I think is vista... trying fix Ubuntu... as above,...??? Last login: Thu Sep 20 21:09:58 on console vaio-pc:~ new$ unity --reset -bash: unity: command not found vaio-pc:~ new$
I've struggled with this too, and on my system is turned out to be a problem with libGL.so. The tools installer had failed to install it correctly when upgrading the tools. See this thread: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=260418 (post #15)
why in Terminal of mac not win , shows win user name rather mac user name my problem fixed after a logmein section... anyway there is a question: why in Terminal of mac not win , shows win user name rather mac user name?
is is always vaio-pc? can you try to restart your Mac, without starting Parallels - open terminal. Which name do you have on Mac?
now appears my mac id... well is needed pass some time(2wks eg) to return to mac from windows id in terminal? or not, just log out parallels and restart?
it is usually Mac ID there in Terminal -- not Windows. So you probably had to restart your Mac, just as you did i suppose
