I wanted to take a minute to share a fix for installing parallels tools on Linux Mint 16.
I also got this to work the exact same way on Xubuntu, however i did not have to worry about the permissions.
- You will need to run the initial installer and let it fail
- After that, download the patch file originally provided by user Marcus Tomlinson The file is Available Here
- Next, Navigate to the media/user/ and drag and drop the 'Parallels Tools1' folder to your home folder
- Right click on the newly created folder, go to permissions, and change the top drop down to create and delete
- Now open it
- Right click on the 'kmods' folder, go to permissions, and change the top drop down to create and delete
- Now open 'kmods', delete the file in there and replace it with the one downloaded form above.
- Open up a terminal window and type in 'sudo -su'
- Now navigate to the folder 'cd Parallels\ Tools1/'
- Now it should install just fine 'su ./install'
