Apache/PHP bug when running guest Ubuntu as development server

Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition version 16.1.3
Host OS: MacOS Big Sur version 11.2.1
Guest OS: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Apache 2.4.18
PHP 7.3.24

I'm using Ubuntu to run an Apache server to serve PHP files.
When Apache serves the files/source code that's local on Ubuntu, they show up in my browser (Firefox) as expected.
When Apache serves the same files/source code from a shared folder on my Mac, my browser shows broken characters and doesn't fetch any of the asset files.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue and have any suggestions?
