Can I cancel the subscription anytime and only have paid for however many months I had it for?

Can I cancel the subscription anytime and only have paid for however many months I had it for? So essentially, if I bought the 1 year subscription for $7 a month, and I cancel it 3 months later, would I end up paying only $21? And I wouldn't be charged at all afterwards? Just wanna make sure so I don't lose money. Thanks!
(Also, Skyrim can run on v17 with M1, right?)
