Cannot press "tilde" key while on certain apps.

I am quite new to this forum so I think this is the best place to encounter people that might have the same issue as I have. To summarise the issue I cannot press tilde while playing a game, and the tilde key is a good thing to have work as it allows you to "manipulate" some of the aspects of the game. I am playing through this game that i've wanted to play for a long time now and want to access the console to mess around with it and to fix some bugs, however while using parallels I seem to not be able to. I have searched online for possible solutions only to return with fruitless efforts. I am now asking people that use parallels and (hopefully) have played through this game or any other game where this issue is persistent.

If anyone has encountered a similar issue, help is always appreciated.
