Error starting paralells

I got Parallels installed after a bit of poking around the forums last night, and to be honest i was very excited. I followed that by installing a fresh copy of XP pro, which worked wonderfully. I rebooted the system and at that point i get the following error every time I attempt to run Parallels:

Anyone have an Idea on this? I ws really hoping I'd found the solution i was looking for.
 
Same problem here

Kubuntu 7.0.4 (new install, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic), fresh install of parallels after completing instructions on this page: http://forums.parallels.com/thread6035-2.html, specifically I had to use this version of Parallels to complete the installation successfully: http://download.parallels.com/stuff/ubuntu_special/Parallels-2.2.2164-lin-en.deb

When I run parallels from the CLI, this is what I receive:

Anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this?

Well, the problem appears to be permissions related. I used to have parallels running with Kubuntu 6.06 w/o issue, and I would be able to run it just as I showed in the above snippet. However, it appears that parallels will not run on 7.04 as a regular linux user. If I run parallels under sudo, everything works normally.

I will maybe play around with strace and try to find out if there is a permissions change in /dev somewhere than is wreaking havoc with parallels.
 
Ahh. I have it figured out. The problem comes when you use the prescribed "sudo" method for running commands as root in *buntu. Because sudo doesn't completely alter the environment to that of the target user, it botched up the install of parallels as root.

Simple fix, use "sudo su -" to make yourself a true root user, prior to installing parallels. After installing this way, Parallels worked perfectly for me as a regular user.
 
Also note that the "Error: BadDevice" entries have nothing to do with the segfault problem, as far as I can tell. On my system, they were caused by having bogus entries in /etc/X11/xorg.conf that Kubuntu had added for a "Wacom" tablet device (which I do not have).
