New beta fails to start a virtual machine

I upgraded to the latest beta and it's impossible to start a virtual machine. I tried uninstalling Parallels, rebooting, reinstalling. Did that several times, but the same problem still persists. I also have 10GB of space free on my HD.

This is the problem:

"Unable to allocate virtual machine memory!

This error may occur mostly if there is no enough free disk space available on the physical disk to allocate virtual machine paging file. Try to clean up the physical disk (remove unnecessary files). If it doesn't help, try to re-install Parallels Desktop."

Anyone has an idea how to resolve this?
 
I did that, several times. I even uninstalled Parallels, several times. I created a new virtual machine, checked the system logs, ... nothing worked.
 
Oh, and I uninstalled the new beta and reinstalled the older stable 1848 build again, and everything is working fine.
 
I have the same problem and attempted the same things as gbevin. Nothing helped.

I'll reinstall an old build. Let me know if you need specs of my Macbook.
 
Alas same problem here. Installed the update and wanted to resume an existing XP installation and it immediately complains about the virtual memory.

I also tried this:

but that didn't help either. With this configuration it tries to start the VM from the 'Stopped' state.

Also the same problem with my (pre-beta) Ubuntu image.

Sorry to hear you have troubles with this update. To address the problem we'll need a bit more details:

1. Your Mac total amount of RAM.
2. The amount of RAM you specify for guest OS.
3. Reserved memory limit (you can check it at Parallels Desktop->Preferences->Memory tab)
4. MacOS X version. Are all available updates installed?

256MB

3. Reserved memory limit (you can check it at Parallels Desktop->Preferences->Memory tab)
1624MB, the extreme end of the scale


4. MacOS X version. Are all available updates installed?
10.4.6, yup

I tried reducing the reserved memory limit to 700, 400 and even 200 and that all doesn't really help.

612 MB, though it failed with other amounts too.

The maximum provided by parallels which is 1624MB

4. MacOS X version. Are all available updates installed?
10.4.7 with all updates.

The old version works without problems. As did the release candidates and betas before. The message appears immediately after pressing "Start". Same occurs with a newly created VM

Hi,

seeing there are only three reports here, this may be premature, but could it be linked to the installed amount of RAM? I mean: 2GB are quite a lot, so not many people will have that, so this matches what we are seeing (lots of successful installations).

Maybe someone should try downgrading the RAM a bit and the post here?

Same problem here:

Machine: MBP 2.0 gHz

1. 2 GB
2. 768 mByte
3. 1024 mByte
4. 10.4.7 totally up to date

I also own a MB 1.83 gHz. On that machine it works! There the numbers are:

1. 1 GB
2. 384 mByte
3. 512 mByte
4. 10.4.7 up to date
 
seeing another machine with 2GB where it's failing but another one with 1GB where it works really makes me think that the problem is the RAM. Too bad I have no screwdriver here to pull out one DIMM to check it for sure.

So I ripped out 1 gByte and tried again and found out a couple of things:

1) The MBP performs very bad with only one block of RAM
2) Pilif, you are right, Parallels runs with just 1 GigaByte of RAM

I can start up either my CentOS4 VM or my Ubuntu 6.06 VM, but not both. (Both are configured for the same ram usage of 512MB)
