No prompt to activate Parallels?

I preface this post by saying that I have been a PC user for many years but decided to to switch to Mac, so I'm still on a learning curve.

I have tried to download Parallels 7 onto my 2 week old MBP 13" i5 8GB RAM, 500GB HD running MAC OS 10.7.1 (Lion) without success. After hitting the install button the Parallels 7 program appears to be installing however the activation screen does not appear at the end of the install. When I click on the Parallels icon on the desktop the installation screen appears again...(there's no Parallels desktop).

What is the problem?

the "parallels icon" on your desktop is probably the installer. the activation screen shows up when you actually launch parallels.

go to Macintosh HD -> Applications -> double-click on the Parallels Desktop application

eject (drag to the trash) the icon on your desktop to eject the installer
