Official "Error loading operating system..." Thread (Boot Camp)

If you are having the "Error loading operating system..." error, right after you try to start your virtual machine using a Boot Camp installation, please post here and we'll try to figure this thing out. I know a lot of people are having it, so let's figure it out!

Mac Pro
2.66GHz
2GB
Boot Camp installed on Secondary Disk
 
I have the "Unable to open disk image Boot Camp" error. Does this count here to?

if yes:
Mac Book Pro Core 2 Duo
2.16 GHz
2GB RAM
Boot Camp on secondary disk
Was working with last beta, I removed Parallels Tools for Boot Camp prior to upgrading to the latest beta.
 
Same problem

Mac Pro 2 dual 3Ghz dual Xeon
4gb Ram
3 500 GB drives
Mac os x (up to date) installed on one drive.
Fresh Boot Camp Windows XP SP retail box taking up an entire 500 gb drive (NOT on the Mac OS drive.)

I had a very little used parallels for mac desktop previously installed, but thought I'd done an uninstall prior to the boot camp install of xp.

I get a console with
640 KB Base Memory
524288 KB Extended Memory
Boot from hard drive ... Error loading operating system
 
I too cannot load a new VM from the BC partition due to the "Unable to open disk image Boot Camp!" error. This is on a fresh install of 10.4.8, including a fresh install of XP Pro via BC. The XP partition has been formatted as FAT32.

EDIT: Brilliant! The instructions from this post solved the above issue!

I get a BSOD as XP loads:

Macbook Pro 2.33ghz
160GB HDD
2GB Ram
Boot Camp on Primary Hard disk
 
I also get the Error loading operating system

System: Mac Pro 3 Ghz
3 Gig RAM.
Mac OSX 10.4.8
Boot Camp with windows on a separate hard drive.
Also Red Hat Linux on another drive.

I can run the Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Parallels, but not Windows. I was hoping that build 3094 would fix the problem, but no dice.

I did some poking around the net looking for an explanation of this error, but did not come up with anything that I understood or that I thought applied to this situation. I may try again.

Yeah, I've looked a little and decided that if there was going to be a solution, it would be found here in these forums. I guess we'll just have to wait for an update, or some advice from the Parallels Team.

bootcamp on drive #2 dedicated solely to Windows
2 ghz processors

Error loading operating system.

I am incredibly frustrated.

I too have the error Ubable to open disk image Boot Camp!

MBP 2.16GHz 2gigs ram and fully loaded.
24gig partition for WinXP Pro w/sp2 and all updates are current.
 
Just got a new Mac Pro....

I just got a new Mac Pro today and having this issue with Parallels.

It never gets as far as starting WIndows, just the black screen with the fake bios info and detected the hard drive, and "error loading operating system" Windows is working fine Natively set up via Boot Camp, just not through parallels. I have the same exact setup on my Macbook Pro and it works great, but i cant get past this error on my Mac Pro.

Mac Pro config
Dual 3ghz
4gb ram
2 500gb hard drives, 1 with OSX one with Windows XP Pro SP2
Radeon X1900XT 512mb
using Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mighty mouse.
connected wirelessly to the network via 802.11g with WPA


Now my Macbook Pro that works just fine doing the same thing.. is an original 2ghz Core Duo model with 2gb of ram in it, and a single 100gb 7200 rpm hard drive with a 20gb windows boot camp partition that Parallels is using.

I checked the Driver Cache\i386 directory. I had a driver.cab file with size 61,568KB and an sp2.cab file size 18,300KB. Both had the same modified date of Aug 04. Should I copy driver.cab to sp2.cab or since the sp2.cab file exists, assume that this is not the fix for my problem?

I have a 2 GHZ MacPro with 1 gig of RAM and a completely separate hard drive dedicated to Windows boot camp.

I would first rename sp2.cab to sp2.cab.orig, then make copy of driver.cab and rename it to sp2.cab -- this way you can revert it all if it goes south for some strange reason.

Regarding BC being on a separate physical drive: when you're setting up the new VM in Parallels, is the Boot Camp radio button indeed selectable? If so, you should be fine.
 
Just to add to my original post. I added an additional 2 Gig of RAM to my machine, for a total for 5 Gig. I did not think it would prevent the "Error loading operating system" thing, and it didn't.

But what the hell, it was worth a try.
 
Anyone know if the new beta fixes our problem? Gonna install now. I'll post with the results. There didn't seem to be anything specific in the change log mentioning the problem... Let's hope it was fixed.
 
BETA 3 Didn't help me.

The only difference for me was that I got a message that overlayed the console that said that it was installing the parallel tools and to the effect that don't do anything on the VM during the install or data loss could result. However, nothing was happening. I left it for about 15 or 20 minutes and nothing happened. Note that the console window STILL said error loading OS.
