I was installing this distro of Linux on my Parallels desktop for osx 11.2.0 (32581).
First, I had to umount dev because is mounted without exec permissions.
    $umount /dev/sr0
    $mount /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom

After that, when I was trying to install Parallels tools, an error occurred. Some packages was necessaries, like dkms, kpartx, linux-headers and printer-driver.
I had to uncomment the line of /etc/apt/sources.list relationed with contrib non-free, the last line of the file.
    After uncomment:
    $apt-get clean
    $apt-get update
    $apt-get upgrade -y
    $apt-get dist-upgrade -y
    And restart the system

Note: Thanks for MauricioB1 https://forum.parallels.com/threads/kali-2016-cant-install-parallels-tools.331796/ for find the original solution on https://kalitut.blogspot.com.es/201...t-repositories.html?showComment=1456659118060

For last, I can install the Parallels Tools with the first instructions of this post (look up)
    $/media/cdrom/install

But with the reboot, I have the "invisible mouse pointer" :-(
If I uninstall the Parallels Tools, I have the "visible mouse pointer" again.

Anyone help me, please. I have tried with the hardware options, unsuccessfully :-(

I have found a temporary solution. Type
    Code:
    sudo nano /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-prlmouse.conf
and comment or delete the line with the following contents
    Code:
    MatchTag "prlmouse"
However, very often mouse pointer becomes desynchronized with its image and doesn't react on clicks. Moreover, after installing Parallels Tools, I have to move or press mouse keys while booting Kali to start the graphical interface. I hope it will get reported as a bug and fixed ASAP.

  5. I'm also having this issue, very frustrating!!

Can anybody confirm if Parallels are aware of this issue?

It started occurring after I updated Parallels and update Parallels Tools within Debian. Does anybody have an older version of Parallels Tools handy?

Hi GaryR2, we are aware of this issue and working on fixing it in our future build. Kali Linux OS is yet to be officially supported in Parallels Desktop for Mac. However, You can download and install the older build of Parallels Tools here.

    Hi Arun,
Are you suggesting I must never to the previous version of parallels desktop? The link which you provided provides the full parallels desktop application.

  10. Awesome thank you, I'll try these tools and post back the results here.

Well here is the response from Parallels "Support". So in short they have not resolved the issue, provided me with a non solution and then politely told that they could not care less because they do not support Kali Linux in Parallels Desktop 11. Also no ETA on when this will be resolved or if it will be resolved. What a crock. Parallels please could advertise this attitude and poor service when selling your product.

    Hello Christopher,

The ticket is handled by the Second line Technical Support now.

Currently we don't support Kali Linux in Parallels Desktop 11.

Our Development Team doesn't share any ETA when Kali Linux will be officially supported by Parallels Desktop.

However, it's still possible to install Kali Linux using Parallels Desktop, since it's originally a Debian fork. Please note that Parallels Desktop Support Team won't be able to provide you with a support in case of a Kali Linux virtual machine.

In order to do that please follow the steps bellow:

    1. Download and prepare your Kali Linux distributive

    2. In the Applications folder, open Parallels Desktop and choose File > New.

    3. Click Install Windows or another OS from DVD or image file, then click Continue.

    4. Select the installation media (Drag and drop Kali Linux installation image into the Parallels Wizard window)

    5. Proceed with an installation (Please refer to the screenshots attached)

    6. Once Kali Linux is installed, please restart the virtual machine

    7. Log into your Kali Linux virtual machine, then launch Kali Linux Terminal.
Verify that the repositories for Kali Linux are correct. Copy and execute the following command
    nano /etc/apt/sources.list
Then please make sure that following repository line is present:
    deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free

    8. In Kali Linux Terminal please copy and execute following commands:
    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade -y
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y
sudo apt-get install dkms kpartx printer-driver-postscript-hp

    9. Restart your virtual machine

    10. Now you should be upgraded to 4.4.0 or higher (use '>uname -r' to confirm)

    11. Install the parallel tools by running the installer

Please refer to the screenshots attached.

Your Support Request will be marked as 'Resolved'.
If you have any additional questions or require some additional assistance, you will be able to re-open the request in the next 14 days by replying to this message.

    Confirmed, same issue.

I'm pretty sure this issue started with 11.1 with the current tools for that version for about a month before 11.2 was released. I upgraded to 11.2 and still had the same issue.

I'm a bit disappointed by the response for support on this issue, even though it is a fork from Debian which is supported I don't want to do it but I'm close to installing Debian and setting it up similar to Kali just to see if the issue still occurs. If it does, they would have to look into it and may that solution would work for Kali. This is likely a display server issue though.

    UPDATE:

Updated Kali which installed 4.5.0 kernel, reinstalled tools and still the same issue.
Downloaded and installed Debian, fully up to date and the mouse works after tool install, but the kernel is 3.x.

  17. Ugh.. Little bit frustrating though that their update has killed our VM's and we're not getting any sort of support other than reinstall the whole OS

Have you performed an "apt-get dist-upgrade"? Or is it fully updated via apt-get upgrade?

    EDIT:
I'm also getting this in my xorg.log file
(EE) PRLVIDEO: Could not show Hardware cursor: result - 0x00000000, status - 0xF000001C.

Apparently this error happened prior with Parallels a few years ago, likely fix was in the updated tools.
