I am trying to set up a LAN connection with my macbook so that I can send data from XP on parallels to OSX. I am doing this by using a program called Max/MSP and a java 'netsend' feature in that program.
I've been able to get the connection going just fine as long as my wireless router in my home is connected to the internet. The 'netsend' object on the XP side sends data to the IP address that has been assigned to the macbook (which I find in OSX's network preferences), and the 'netsend' object on the OSX side receives the data at that same specified IP address. So as I understand it, data is going from XP, through parallels, out OSX, to the router, and then back into OSX again.
The problem is that I need to be able to have this connection work without the router being connected to the internet, but merely acting as a routing point to direct the data back to OSX. (This is because I need to use the setup in places that might not have internet access.)
A friend of mine suggested that a Persistent Lan Connection might be what I need. I thought it might have to do with "Host Only/Shared Neworking" settings, but so far my trial and error has not achieved success.
Can someone suggest what I might want to look into to get this set up running? I know it's a bit complicated but if anyone can offer some advice I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
