So not a permanent license

So I purchased a permanent license and bought a new MacBook Pro. It is now asking me to purchase a subscription or I have spend $219.00 for a license I already purchased. Why? So basically you sold me something I can't use anymore. Is there a resolution to this? Can I just download the earlier version that supports my license key?
