Same on M3 air. Seems to be a Parallels related issue because it's fine on standalone Windows machines. as far as I can see.

I don't have IDE (I Die Easily) either (not that I particularly miss having it). SATA seems to be the default HD type option. Incidentally, I run Parallels and the Canary version on a Mac Studio and have had no problem updating THIS MS version. We won't talk about the problems with a prior set of 3 updates that gave the same problem you are having now.

Hi. I decided to try again with Windows update (running Windows 11 PRO on an M3 iMac with 16GB of RAM). I clicked "check on updates" and it started downloading a cumulative update for Windows 11 for ARM. I figured it was the same thing and let it go. To my surprise it completed downloading and then I clicked restart and this new update went through.
It says "Cumulative Update KB5039212" and under system information my install says Version 23H2 and OS 22631.3737. I would guess since this is a higher update number than the one everyone - including myself - was having an issue with, perhaps it replaces the earlier one?

There is a newer Windows 11 ARM update as of 11 June (KB5039212) that installs fine. It pauses at 30%, reboots and then finishes (as opposed to rolling back to the prior Windows version with an error as before)

The update seems to have dissapeared now - new cumulative update installs fine and no more updates offered - guess we shall wait for a rebirth sometime soon.

According to the posts in the original forum post, the new update solves the earlier problem.

Check the windows update now. Seems there's a fix released for us. I have a M3 Max, running Windows 11 on parallels. Faced the same problems listed above of "Automatic repairs" etc. etc. on a reboot after it was downloaded.
I checked & saw that a new update was released late last night for me (10-Jun-24) KB5039212.....checked this KB and it was indeed released last night (my time IST). I have now been able to successfully update the 23H2 now.

    Try it guys....should work!!

My Windows instance still wants to retry the faulty update. How do I get rid of that?

When I did a "Check for Updates" it showed the June 11 update, and the prior one that could not be installed went away.

Looks like it was a Microsoft issue the entire time. They have removed the windows update and provided a newer one which does install.

For those in the Insiders Bet forum - 22635.3785, KB5039319, works on Windows 11 VMs in Parallels! Installed and running fine!

I don't want to knock MS, but it's almost ALWAYS a MS problem. Of the updates that wouldn't install, a new update from MS (not Parallels) fixed the problem. Now, if Parallels suddenly made a new version that solved the problem every time a MS upgrade didn't work, that might be a different story.

This problem has been solved by applying KB5039212, which was released the other day!
