I solved several problems by uninstalling P4 and reinstalling P3:
    1) Mac would not boot, getting stuck on USB items until I rebooted in single-user mode and deleted extensions.mtext
    2) Glacial speed in P4
    3) Other programs freezing while P4 was idling
    4) Keyboard dropping letters if P4 was running

P4 really has no features I care about other than multiple processor use.

Could you please shutdown, and start your mac (not restart ) and try once again
It seems to me either downloaded package is corrupted or relative paths are messed somehow

John thank you for your answer but I have already downloaded this version since 27/11/08 as indicated at the end of my post.
I did not installed because I fear big problems after reading this forum and a loss of time which I do not! One member even reported that he was unable to recover his clone (WinClone), which is not possible for me.

I have found that two members met in the specific case of a BootCamp partition.

I know that you can not give me 100% guarantee but when is it really?

The manual does not provide specifications for such installation. Outside, I have read that some had previously:
    - Clear information in Parallels BootCamp: Parallels / Edit / HDD 1/avanced /
    - Remove Parallels Tools
    - Delete the VM PD3
    - Uninstall PD3
    - Etc ...

I therefore seek your advice as soon as possible on what it is good to do. PD3 works very well but the new performance PD4 me very much, that is why I also bought immediately.

For information, apart from my three denier post, I've sent a PM on 23/11/08 that at first you do not read. You can answer me by PM if you wish.

I also view that there may be a successful despite problems with mouse, speed, copy and paste, .... but I'm not there yet!

Thank you in advance for your response ...

    Hello,
That is more than 10 days that support Parallels does not answer my questions simple.
I do not understand this attitude of silence. I have to buy version 3 last year and now updated 4 in confidence - I can provide the evidence.

I know that my questions do not personally problem but they seem quite legitimate in view of the difficulties encountered by many users.

I have translated (Google) and read a lot of Thread and solutions available on the knowledge base. Being French, not bilingual, it is not easy - I have already spent about twenty minutes Wanted! without the user's guide provides in my language.

In my country there is a proverb: Who is silent, agrees. So if my remarks its justified, why not communicate? otherwise the report?
I can understand that it will commercially problem, but then why not respond by PM?

You give me the impression that I need to take the risk and report any problems you communicate!
As said a member of the forum, we are not beta testers. When our work is lost, you say sorry beings, but who pays? you say to do backups - of course, is paramount for data users but the hours spent on the installation and configuration! do you do that?
I have already arrived from having to use a clone of my BootCamp partition without problems which would take about an hour, but that installing Parallels can render the inoperative restoration of the clone is not an option.

So, I hope to have attracted sufficient attention for a frank and honest response. Maybe you can m'orienter to an existing response that I have not managed to find. Otherwise, I waive this update and you ask for reimbursement.

Relying on your response and your professionalism, thank you in advance for your valuable advice.

    Juillet Ludovic,

Let me answer your question in order you asked them:
John has already replied to this question:
    http://download.parallels.com/deskt...1/Parallels Desktop fr_FR 4.0.3540.221694.dmg
    You should do the following:
    1) Uninstall Parallels Tools
    2) Disable any antiviral software
    3) Uninstall Parallels Desktop 3.0 as described here.

After that download and install Parallels Desktop 4.0 and create a new virtual machine using Boot Camp:
    http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/23112.htm

There were no issues related to Autodesk so far.

Yes, there are a lot of positive feedbacks and this number significantly exceeds the number of failed upgrades.
Also we would like to assure you that generally the upgrade goes smoothly and performance is much better than those in Parallels Desktop 3.0.

If you have any questions, it is preferable to create a ticket in our queue and we will answer all your questions for sure.

    MakcyD thank you,

For information, you have not answered my most recent post on this subject: No. 88.

So can you confirm that there is no need to erase information in Parallels BootCamp: Parallels / Edit / HDD 1/Avanced.

Do you need to uninstall the antivirus software? disable not enough?

I downloaded G4L proposed by John to clone all the partitions (mac + win), but its use is very complicated - the language barrier still hit! particularly as the manual dating from 2005 is not accessible. Apart from the fact that I am not even sure whether a mac, even compressing them, I have enough space to create new clone on my external hard drives.
That said, thank you anyway for this track.

    Pending the past two answers

I found on the ftp pdf files containing some brief explanations in English with screen shots, but I have a good overview of the features of G4L.

I also followed your link and I downloaded knoppixg4l.iso (2h).
I understand I have to burn the image onto a CD to start over and simulate a Linux system to run G4L. Is this true?
There is an information page and a small FAQ in French for Knoppix but nothing to G4L.
For the moment, the French site of Knoppix is more accessible. I will try later.

Apart from the fact that I do not want to waste too much time in this approach, partly because Linux me unknown, the risks are still substantial in view of warnings mentioned in both applications.
Then: Linux + English + + Time + Risks disk space = No Thanks, at least for the moment because it m'interresse ...

Thank you John, very interesting, I will look into the Linux world.

John: I am having a problem identical to fmortens. I have followed the thread to this point and have had exactly the same results as him at every step. Rebooting, at the last step - after which he has not yet responded - did not fix the problem. It appears that the script is detecting Parallels 3.0, which was once on the system but no longer is anywhere that I can find, and erroring out when it then attempts to find the .h file....

    Meh, Figured it Out

The preflight looks for "/System/Library/Extensions/hypervisor.kext" and flat out dies if it finds it (exit 112). This file, for whatever reason, still existed on my system. I rm-rf'd it and was good to go. So, my solution to the problem detailed by fmortens@me.com, which is:

    Was to:

    [blockquote]rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/hypervisor.kext[/blockquote]

I would NOT do this if you are not 100% sure this is your problem, otherwise you will screw up your previous Parallels installs.

    Thanks.

The upgrade from 3 to 4 went fine. After the upgrade, Win XP was noticeably slower. Lived with it for a few days. On the 4th day, Windows hung. Force quit would not work so I rebooted. When I restarted Parallels 4, it told me my Virtual Machine (a boot camp partition) was corrupted. I rebooted into Windows with boot camp and it was fine. Went back into Parallels and deleted the Boot Camp VM and recreated it. It started again but I had to re-install the Parallels Tools. After restart, the mouse would stick inside Parallels Windows and I kept having to hit CTRL-ALT to free it. As soon as I would mouse over the Parallels window, it would stick again. There were other minor problem I saw over the 4 days I had it such as repeatedly being asked if I want to connect a USB device (every few seconds), disappearing Windows when running in Coherence, etc.

At this point I had enough and decided to go back to 3.0. Uninstalled 4.0, reinstalled 3.0, recreated the Boot Camp VM, re-installed Parallel Tools from 3.0 menu. Initial testing showed the response time I was use to was restored as well as the file associations. However, on my wife's Parallels desktop (same iMac), there were still file associations left from the 4.0 version. Took me awhile to figure out how to get rid of them and use the 3.0 file associations.
