I too think it may have disappeared. Whether it's the latest Parallels update, or the latest Windows update, I'm not sure. But I've had a couple of days without the issue showing at all. Currently 'crossing things' and waiting to see if it goes on OK.

Windows 10 boot time approx. 4,5 minutes !!
The fast boot times (usually around 20 sec for Windows on my system) were what kept me with Parallels over the years even though there were so many issues with every new release of Ubuntu. Instead of following my instinct and first have a look at the forum before upgrading, I upgraded to PD14 yesterday (on a Mojave iMac with FusionDrive) and I must say it was - again - a mistake. Windows 10 takes about 3 minutes until it shows the welcome screen with the picture and then about another 1,5 minutes until the icons are complete on the desktop. Overall performance then is poor, the Win10 process on the Mac varies between 110% and 230%, starting eg. Chrome on Win10 takes 20-30 sec.

I don't have the time wo work through all the workarounds here in the forum to come to a workable system again. I paid for the upgrade and then I can expect at least a state in which it is not worse as before, let alone experience the promised performance enhancements of PD14 for Mojave and Windows 10.

I will probably use it for some time now that I paid for it but I won't upgrade to the next version again. I will rather have a look at vmware.

    Thanks, RogerH6 !
I did as suggested in the article (no error messages or the like either) and now it improved. Booting now takes about 1:45 minutes which is significantly better than before but still far from previous PD versions. I liked PD so much in the past since you could quickly fire up a VM (below a minute).
Maybe PD14 updates will help. Let's see. Thanks, again.

That's interesting. Possibly suggests that the fusion drive has decided to not store the VM on the SSD.
I have two Windows VM's. One I built ages ago, and a more recent one. What is interesting is that they should basically be identical, yet the older one boots in well under 30seconds, while the newer one takes more than twice as long. If I use a Mac terminal window, and run "iostat -w 120" then boot the older VM, it shows that it is coming off disk0, and transferring well over 100MB/sec (so from the SSD). However run iostat again and launch launch the newer VM, and instead it shows that it is coming off disk1 and transferring under 40MB/sec (so from the hard drive). So the Fusion system has decided the prioritise the older VM.
Now Apple's algorithm for making this decision, is undocumented... :(
You can test which drive your VM is on using iostat like this, so can at least see if this is what has happened.

I played with iostat a little, used iostat -w 5 in the end and I guess disk1 is the SSD. At least it's going up to max. 39 MB/s when I start iTunes etc. disk1 stays below 5 MB/s all the time.
When I start Windows 10 it shows highs of 20-30 MB/s but only for some time when I start the vm, then hangs at 2-6 MB/s for a long time (circling dots), shortly jumps to 17 MB/s when the Welcome comes up, goes down again for a longer time and shortly goes up to 11 when the Desktop comes up.
From then on it's not much fun to work with Windows 10, it mostly takes 2-3 sec when I click the "Start Button" until teh Start Menu comes up.
If you are interested here is my commented iostat -w log:

Is the Windows event log showing anything?.
It does sound as if the Windows is having an issue of some sort during the boot.

It's complaining about the KbdPrlDE.dll (by Parallels) and suggests a PD Tools reinstall. IN addition the Security Center identified a problem with the Parallels Location Driver which it couldn't fix. The PD tools reinstall fixed the keyboard driver problem but not the Parallels Location Driver problem. I deactivated it, now it's gone.
And then there a some DistributedCOM 10061 errors but these can be ignored according to Microsoft (fail on purpose) and they have been in the event log already when my system was usable with the older version.
Errors are gone in the log now, system still booting very slow.

    No improvement with version 14.1.0
Windowstart lasts 9 minutes, Windows programs are slow and Mac programs also run slower when Parallels is running.

Yup! Good job, Parallels. Snappier than ever. I'm back from VMWare. But....I am withholding final judgment until I work with it for a few days.

Hi all, been having the problems frequently outlined here amongst the forums since my upgrade to Parallels 14.

    Mid-2015 MBP, 2.2GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, running macOS Mojave 10.14.3
Parallels 14.1.0 running Windows 10 Pro, version 1709, OS Build 16299.846
Have 2 processors and 8GB of RAM dedicated to Parallels

Continually running in to the issues of 100% Disk usage which causes temporary freezing. This is extremely prevalent amongst viewing PDFs or working within Outlook. Opening a PDF, 100% of the time I know I have to wait about 5sec before I can interact with it. Moving from reading one email to the next, writing an email, etc. frequently cause a freeze and "Not Responding" message. I was not previously experiencing this issue in Parallels 13 but had to upgrade to 14 due to other issues likely caused by Parallels 13 incompatibility with Mojave.

Based on other requests, submitted a Technical Report: 296597767

I was really, really!, excited to see an update (Parallels 14.1.1) come out but less optimistic after reading through the applicable changes. After install, still having all the same disk utilization issues.

  13. Hi, please generate the problem report in the newest version (14.1.1) and reply us back with the report ID. Thanks in advance.

Exactly the same with me. Still no improvement with 14.1.1. I also did not believe it because Parallels support wanted to contact me directly if the problem is resolved.
Windowstart lasts 9 minutes, Windows programs are slow and Mac programs also run slower when Parallels is running.

  15. Hi, please generate the problem report using this article right after the issue reproduced. And reply us back with the report ID

Updated first thing this morning and gave it a go for the duration of the day. Still receiving frequent 100% CPU or Disk utilization when switching apps. The frustrating thing is it happens by simply clicking on a window to make it active, I don't even have to interact with it or make a request for it to fully utilize resources. Adobe Reader was the worst culprit prior to the update and it seems to be better but now I'm experiencing issues with apps like Chrome which caused no problems before.

While the problem is very frustrating, I'm provided some solace in knowing that going out and spending $3,500 on a new laptop won't fix my problem, that Parallels needs to fix it.
